Do you remember Elvis?

I was in the ninth grade when I first head Elvis on the radio. It must have been the middle fifties. I can remember going to school talking about him before the other kids had even heard of him. I saw him on Ed Sullivan and the Milton Berle Show and I have been a fan ever since. Today I have a huge Elvis collection and was fortunate enough to see him a few times in the seventies. I have never come close to feeling this way about any other entertainer. I am sure a lots of folks can't understand this but I consider Elvis part of my life, seems he has always been there. Has anyone else been touched by Elvis? He will be 73 years old on Jan.8th.

Update:

He will be 74, not 73 on his birthday. We don't forget the people that we love just because they die. We move on,but we remember. I hope this generation will have an entertainer to remember from their youth.

  • I wasn't alive while he was but I sure wish i was! I love him! Besides just having a good voice he was grateful, kind, and was a strong believer in God. It feels like I knew him and his family just from watching and hearing interviews with him.

  • Absolutely! As I posted before when someone asked this question. . . I lived in Hollywood, CA at the time when Elvis was making a lot of movies. He used to stay at the Hollywood Knickerbocker Hotel which was not far from where I went to high school. My girlfriends and I became friends with the door man, and he would always let us know when Elvis was in town. We would go to see him. Things were pretty innocent in those days!

  • Saw him just yesterday at MacDonalds ! Its such a tragedy how he has let himself become so unhealthy, a mockery of his younger years.

Seriously, he was such a hottie in his younger years. All the fuss over his gyrating hips, Ed Sullivan had to "tape" him from the waist up because of all the dinosaurs who were offended by his blatant sexiness.

Used to go to all his movies as a teenager. I even ran into an "Elvis taxi driver" in Beijing, yup an Elvis lookalike complete with shades and Elvis's music playing in his cab. Interesting how he touched so many people -

  • When Elvis died, I called one of my sisters to see if she was okay. My 3 sisters, mom, and brother are all big fans. I like some of his music but I am not the biggest fan. They have all gone to Graceland and the whole nine yards. One of my best friends is a big fan. Her birthday is also Jan 8th. We, at work, are throwing her an Elvis Party. Should be fun.

  • Of course, I remember Elvis - I am 67 and remember seeing him on TV and in concert. I have also been to Memphis to Graceland - what a waste of money. Sorry, I do appreciate Elvis' talent but I do not go gargar over Elvis, nor the Beattles (who I love to pieces), nor Tom Jones.

I have moved on with my life.

  • No, I don't "remember" Elvis. But my dad has been a HUGH fan for all of my life, so I grew up listening to and watching Elvis' music and movies. I can't say I'm big fan of the movies, but I LOVE his music. And if he were still alive I would definitely want to go to a concert!

  • I love Elvis and am 43 years old. I watched the movie Elvis Lives - The 25th Anniversary Concert last night and it was one of if not the best I have ever seen. If you have not seen it you will want to get a copy. Hope you enjoy. God Bless :)

  • Elvis is King!!!

I actually went to Graceland a long time ago. 1987.

I accidently stepped in some horse sh!t that Elvis's palomino had just dropped. A few years later, it was on the news that the horse had died. I felt like I'd lost a friend.

  • Yes we were in our twenties and all are husbands were jealous of him lol I'm not kidding. I came pretty darn close to being touched by him at Harrahs in South Shore Lake Tahoe Nevada lol if you mean by his songs not really we liked the way he moved while he was singing and he was soooooo handsome before he started doing drugs. he was much more handsome in person than on the TV or in the movies, a very sweet guy to all the employees and fans.

  • I will never forget.I just saw a documentary this weekend on TV Land. His music has great memories for me. I must say,the beatles and the whole British Invasion of the 60's was my thing and still is today.Be well.Don't be cruel when people say something about your blue suede shoes.

Snuffy looks great for 65. Be well.

  • Still my favorite singer. Elvis - when he was in the Army had been stationed at the same place I was stationed in Germany he wore the same division patch and held the same rank I held when I had been in the Army - Elvis had been a Tanker while I had been in the Infantry, third Armor Division.
