How does a skid loader operate?

a cat 277b skid loader to be more specific. I can't find anything about how it operates that makes sense to me...

  • The front and back wheels on the right side are connected with a chain drive.

    There is a hydraulic motor for the right side.

    The left side has an identical set up.

    Both motors have a spring applied hydraulically released brake.

    When the machine is standing still or the diesel engine is off, both brakes are applied.

    To operate the machine, a joystick controls hydraulic valves that operate both motors.

    Going strait forward or backward, both motors operate at the same RPM.

    To turn left or right, can be done two ways.

    A partial movement of the joy stick speeds up one motor.

    A full movement of the joy stick reverses one motor.
