Made a tax mistake, Can I retract?

My husband and I are separated, but he begged me to file with him so he would not back owe taxes. I did this, but it will not go thru the system till the 30th.

Out of anger, he claims he will keep all of the money and I will not get a dime for MY CHILD (not his)

I had my own business and decided to DO THE RIGHT THING and report my income filing my OWN return,

How can I tell HR Block to change this info?

  • You have only 2 choices, married filing jointly (which you did) or married filing seperately which is a horrible filing status, especially for self employed people. You will have to pay all of your social security, medicare and taxes, plus self employed taxes. The only way to change this once it's been done is to file an ammended return.. he will then have to do the same.

  • no

and you cannot amend, the ONE change you cannot make is changing from married jointly to married separately

however consider this, if you and he split by June 30 and had not a single overnite thru Dec. 31, you could change to filing as head of household on the 1040X

do you mean H/R is not filing your return until the 30th? contact them for guidance

  • In theory you have until 4/15/2013 to change the 2012 return to MFS. Of course, if it's no longer an MFJ return, you could owe a lot of money.
