Do condoms really protect me?
I just started taking Aviane 28 this month for birth control. However this month, before I started taking the birth control, I have been taking Augmentin for an ear infection. I am aware that this antibiotic can decrease the effectiveness of my pill. And I know that during the first month of birth control use I should be using a back-up method as well.
My concern is that this week was my fertile time - right in the middle of the 28 day cycle. I had sex Friday and Saturday and even though the 14th day of my cycle is today I'm pretty sure ovulation occured on Friday as my cervix was high and I noticed stretchy discharge. SO now I'm all worried that I am for sure pregnant but I think I'm worried over nothing. My boyfriend and I used condoms with spermicidal lubricant and he pulled out before he came.AND we checked the condoms for rips before and after. There were no spills or rips at all.
I know you might be reading this thinking I'm insane! But I just need some reassurance that I'm safe

Everybody knows, but is afraid to admit, that the only 100% protective birth control is not having sex until you're committed to a husband or wife, and afterward using a condom, pills, or natural planning to keep from getting pregnant. A married couple won't have to worry about venereal disease unless they have oral sex when the giver has a cold sore; and married couples sometimes don't see the need for oral sex since they're not as worried as non-married sexers about getting pregnant and getting diseased.
You're probably ok, but you'll have to wait a fortnight to know for sure. Also, be aware that the pill can dry you up if you are on it for long periods. If that happens, come off it for a month so your body can reset itself. The other side effect the doctor may not have told you, is that prolonged use of the pill can seriously dampen your libido. It can get to the point where the pill works simply because you aren't doing it! It sort of zombifies your libido. Might not happen to you, but it's good to be aware of the possibility.
You should be fine. But even with everything you described, there is still a small chance that you could be pregnant. No method of birth control is 100% effective, using more than one, like you did, drops your chance of getting pregnant even more.
The only way know is to either wait for you period, or take a pregnancy test.
I think you're safe. It depends how long you were taking the anti-biotic for, if it was a short course then one week normally is all you need to use extra contraception other than the pill. To use a condom and spermicide you should be fine.
ooh! sweetie, we all need a bit of reassurance now and again. i can relate to the situation, taking precautions and still fretting. even though i tell you not to worry, there's no removing that gut feeling. so just try and relax. if your sure u took all the steps, u really have nothing to worry about. if anything, you should be commended for being responsible. it will pay off. take care.
I think you are worrying too much. Sounds like you did a good to protect yourself.
You guys are what every couple should be when it comes to protection You are as safe as safe can be
