davids bridal bridesmaid dress size?

I am in a wedding this weekend. When we ordered the dress i was 1 week overdue pregnant, i only gained 21lbs and lost it all by the second day after delivery.

we guessed on the size- i got married a year previous adn my dress size was a 10. i ordered a 12 for this wedding.. im just worried its not going to fit and i dont have ANY time to re-order.... or change it... b/c the color is pewter....

how do the sizes run? i wear a size 13 and its a little lose on me for pants...

  • Most of the gowns there are only a problem in the bust size, although it depends on the particular dress. The bridesmaids in my wedding, as well as the dress I wore for my best friend's wedding, were all from David's. They had an empire waist and were flowey from the breasts down, which means the hips/ waist size is never a problem. The issue I ran into with my dress is that I'm a size 2, but had to order a size 6 just to get it big enough for my chest. The dresses assume everyone has small breasts, and since you were preggo recently I would assume yours are still enlarged. That's the only thing I would worry about.

There is a minimizing strapless bra by Lilyette, sold at macy's and JCPenny (and it's on sale right now). That totally saved my life in the dress... it's the only strapless i've ever worn that actually contained "the girls." You may want to check it out!

They also do alterations, so I'm sure they can make the dress work for you.

  • WHAT? You gained and lost the baby weight that quickly? Wow, good for you.

As a seamstress who once did alterations in a bridal shop quite some time ago, I can tell you that you were smart to order a size 12 dress. There is no way we can know if that size 12 will fit your post baby body, so you would be best to go and try that dress on today. The bride needs reassurance and you will be relieved to know the dress fits, so get over there and pick up your dress.

The only problem I think may happen is that it could be too tight across the bust line. Only you know how your weight has shifted post baby.

  • I was in a wedding a month ago and my dress was from Davids Bridal. I'm normally A size 12, but my dress was a 14...they size small. So there might not be any fit issues. I'd say get some of that special double-sided tape just in case, so if the dress is a little loose up top that tape may keep it in place.

  • The run a bit smaller about 1-2 sizes depending on the dress. Perhaps go to Davids Bridal and try on the dress and then buy it from ebay. Good Luck!

  • i am in a wedding in august and my dress is from davids bridal. i usually wear a size 12/13 in pants. i had to order a size 14 in the db dress. i am also getting married in october and my bridesmaids got there dresses at db too. they all had to order a size bigger than they normally wear as well.

  • I hope you didn't assume this size and base it on your street clothes sizes. They do not run the same. Did you check the sizing chart on their website to make sure that they met your measurements? If it doesn't fit, I'm sure you can return it. If you don't have much time, you may need to get it altered. Good luck!

  • It's the bust that may cause you problems. Most gowns have to be ordered a size larger, so you may be okay.
