Brands are equal. PNY is a huge company and I have used their RAM, no problems. I have also used Kingston and Samsung, all were fine. Many PC geeks love Crucial. They are not sold in all countries, so I have no experience with Crucial.
Type: PC2-5300
Maximum: 6GB has been tested (one of 2GB, one of 4GB)
If you now have 2 x 1GB, you would toss both of those to install the maximum 6GB.

can i upgrade to 8 gb?
I bought 6 GB RAM (2x4) from OWC for my early 2008 MBP when I upgraded them. They failed after a while but OWC replaced them for free.
