How do you factor x^4+y^4?

I've been killing myself over this one.

  • unfortunately non has found the factorisatrion

this can be factored by squaring

    x^4+y^4= x^4+2x^2y^2+ y^4 - 2x^2y^2

    = (x^2+y^2)^2 - (sqrt(2)xy)^2

    = (x^2+y^2+sqrt(2)xy)

    (x^2+y^2-sqrt(2)xy)

  • X^4 and Y^4 are different variables, and you can't add two different variables.

    X^4 + X^4 = X^8

    Y^4 + Y^4 = Y^8

    X^4 + Y^4 = X^4 + Y^4

  • Well u take on ur calculator 4square root which is two then u do 4*2=6 or somethin like that srry i tried

  • you cant. x^4 and y^4 dont share any common factors.

if they were the same variable, then they would, but they dont.

if u have x*x*x*x and y*y*y*y, there is nothing in common to take out.

    i hope this helps!

  • It isn't factorable.
