Basic Algebra Problems?
I Im unsure about the question and i am taking summer school online . I had looked up example and im still unsure about answer ! I need help on these three questions . So help is very appreciated please & thank you.
Please translate the following word problems into algebraic expressions (turn the words into an equation).
If you multiply the square of a number n by 6 and then added 3 to the product, the sum is equal to 57.
Ann has the 5 newest music CD’s which is 3 less than twice the amount that Bob has
Mike, who has 6 video games, has half as many games as Paul.
Comments
Square of number n= n^2
by 6 = times 6
then added 3= +3
The sum equals = = 57
So we get -->
[6(n^2)] +3 = 57
Second problem: same idea
A= 5
B= 2A - 3
Plug in to solve
B= 2(5)-3 = 7 ...bob has 7
Third problem:
M= 6
P= 2M
Paul has 12, the last two problems have two people in them, so you need two equations
.
.
1) 6n^2 +3 = 57
6n^2 = 54
n^2 = 9
n = +3 Or -3 ANSWER
2) Bob = x
2x -3 = 5
2x = 8
x = 4
ANSWER Bob = 4
3) Paul = x
Mike = 6 = 1/2x
12 = x
ANSWER Paul has 12
6n + 3 = 57
2B -3 = 5
P/2=6
