1999 Honda Passport motor?

I am thinking about getting a 1999 Honda Passport. The SUV runs and drives and is spotless. My question is is there any other motor and trans I can drop in the SUV that will fit other than the factory ones? I have heard to many storys about the factory motor and trans to not hav a back up on hand and dont want to put another ISUZU motor in it. I dont understand why Honda put a ISUZU junk motor in it to start with.

The motor in a Passport is the same motor out of a isuzu rodeo sorry but the guy that tried to answer my question is wrong.

    You misspeak. The Honda Passport does not have an Isuzu motor in it. It is an Isuzu Rodeo. It is not a Honda at all. From 94 - 2002, Honda was in a bind to come up with an SUV and Isuzu stop making cars altogether and got them from Honda. Now that is something to ponder. Read about the partnerships between Isuzu, GM and Honda.
