There's a great TV mini series called..."A Season Of Giants" it follows the life of Da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo..
check it out...It was made by TNT in 1991...also there are some great art history book on DaVinci.. as far as who discovered Da Vinci that would be accredited to his father...Art was an occupation that was looked down upon by the community at that time...he took young Da Vinci to Florence Italy to study art ...observing that his son had an unusual talent in math, art and music...Da Vinci spent twenty years in the bussom of Lodovico Sfroza...the duke of Milan..it was during this time he painted The Madonna on the rocks and The Last Supper.. Sfroza neglected to pay Leonardo for his work....but he was his greatest influence and Leonardo was his most famous student...They had a Passion and a hate for each other..It was after that period I guess you could say than Da Vinci had an awakening and ventured to study on his own....the rest is history
As a scientist Leonardo towered frequently his contemporaries. His clinical theories, like his imaginitive recommendations, were in accordance with careful commentary and precise documentation. He understood, more suitable constructive than all and sundry of his century or the subsequent, the importance of precise clinical commentary. regrettably, only as he many times did not deliver to end imaginitive initiatives, he under no circumstances carried out his planned treatises on one of those clinical matters. His theories are contained in countless notebooks, maximum of that were written in mirror script. because they were no longer truly decipherable, Leonardo's findings were no longer disseminated in his own lifetime; had they been revealed, they'd have revolutionized the technological understanding of the 16th century. Leonardo truly predicted many discoveries of present day circumstances. In anatomy he studied the move of the blood and the action of the interest. He made discoveries in meteorology and geology, realized the top results of the moon on the tides, foreshadowed present day conceptions of continent formation, and surmised the nature of fossil shells. He grow to be between the originators of the technological understanding of hydraulics and doubtless devised the hydrometer; his scheme for the canalization of rivers nevertheless has useful cost. He invented an excellent type of inventive machines, many doubtlessly sensible, between them an underwater diving in tremendous condition. His flying instruments, even with the actual incontrovertible truth that no longer workable, embodied sound concepts of aerodynamics. wish this can be of help.. thanks!

I think he discovered himself one day in the mirror, became a cross dresser and painted the Mona Lisa as a self portrait. ha ha
