First of all, you need to know what manga they are going to read and maybe do some online research about it. Second, most mangas have like a "lowest age recommendation", which most of the time is pretty low. So maybe have a look into the manga they are going to read and decide yourself. Hope i helped.
On the back of the volume is usually an age rating, so you can check if it's appropriate in the bookstore or library before they get it. It'll be in a little box or circle on the back with a letter, and sometimes they'll like why it's rated that way (like OT for nudity, violence, cursing, etc.). E means everyone, anyone can read it. Y means Youth, for ages 10+. T means Teens, for ages 13+. OT means older teen, for ages 16+. M means Mature, for ages 18+. Sometimes you'll also see A, which can mean either Anyone (for all ages) or Adult (for 18+). If that's the case it should explain which it means and why.
Look on myanimelist.com it's a great sight where you can look at genres for manga as well as anime. There's also a category for "ages blank to blank".... it has age ratings on each manga and anime you click on. It also has the summary, character description and lists, recommendation list, and reviews on the manga or anime. I hope they enjoy reading manga like I do and hope this helped!(:

It's VERY appropriate for kids that age.
It's what I got my little sister to read and she's 11.

Read the manga before they read it and see if you think the content is appropriate,I've been reading manga and watching anime since I was 7
Usually it will say somewhere on the book what age range it is intended for. If not then try looking up some reviews online.
