Umbilical cord-related issue?

I think that my baby's umbilical cord might have gotten rubbed off by her diaper accidentally. I know it's supposed to fall off on its own. How can I tell that everything's okay. It's a little reddish and scabbish. When I look inside her belly button it does seem a little greenish, slightly. That would be an infection, but is it possible to seem like it is infected when it's not?

  • That doesn't sound like an infection, that sounds normal.

They are supposed to turn a little bit green and scabbish. A small amount of red is also fine. Pus is a bad sign, as is bright red.

I think its fine, just don't mess with it.

Don't put alcohol on it. Studies show that slows down the healing process, and does not decrease the rate of infections. (I had heard that before and just read that in the Baby Trends magazine I got today.)

  • Read the link below and see if it sounds like what you're looking at. It's the best description I've read of what tje belly button looks like right after the umbilical stump falls off.

  • It will be fine,Just keep putting alcohol on it. If you are worried it is always ok to have the doc take a look.

  • Use a bit of alcohol and keep an eye on it! All you can do, if your too concerned ask the doc about it.

  • Just keep putting the alcohol on the area. It should clear up and if not you go to the doctor

  • If you still have an umbilical cord, then you should not be on Yahoo! Answers.

  • I WOULD TAKE THE BABY TO THE DOCTOR
