How to downshift a manual car?
FYI I'm a noobie Say like I was going 70mph but the speed limit is 40mph how would you shift down to that speed.
Update:say 70 was at 3rd gear and the top of 2nd gear is 50 so would I release the clutch pedal slow Down to about 45 press down clutch pedal downshift to 2nd gear release clutch slowly whileat the same time adding a little gas. please someone explain it

Push in clutch ,, Brake or coast down to speed limit , switch to appropriate gear for speed.. release clutch
simple as that the correct way to downshift without ruining your transmission
push clutch in, downshift to next gear, let clutch out slowly
Depends on the car though, you need to find out what the gears go to in your car... If your second gear only goes to 50mph than when you downshift into it while going 70mph you will blow up your engine/transmission.
Disengage clutch, shift down, engage clutch, disengage clutch, shift down, engage clutch.....
And while you do this, brake. Just use both you brake pads and engine brake.
Just get off the throttle, hit the brake slightly and you'll be doing 40.
break... put your foot off the gas. then down shift
