CCTV system suitable for domestic premises?

I am looking for a cost-effective CCTV system to protect my family home. I want one colour internal camera which can view through double glazing to a lit porch driveway area and be linked to a VCR. It must provide images which are of sufficient quality for th epolice to ID suspects, and be triggered by movement.

  • I used to have a CCTV / VCR system but the continuous switching on and off of the VCR wrecked it. I now use a spare computer with a half decent web cam and a programme named "Dorgem" . It works in the same way, saving any movement.

  • There is no legal obligation to even make tapes in the first place but if the CCTV is a condition of an insurance policy there may be a minimum requirement stipulated in the agreement.

  • Depending on what country you live in, you should be able to pick up a reasonably priced unit for the purpose you require, from B&Q outlets. Check online too.

Please remember that it is illegal to have the camera pointing at somone else's house or property without their consent.
