Why do most Korean actors/actresses possess Caucasian-esque facial features?
I was wondering.
I had this theory that maybe, when the Russians occupied the easternmost city, namely Vladivostok, thousands/hundreds of years ago, most of the Russian residents (mostly for garrison) married some of the Koreans, and luckily half of the Caucasian genes they have are passed to later generations of Koreans, thus producing an utterly attractive multitude.
Please enlighten me with a plausible answer, if you feel that my theory is nonetheless ridiculous! ^_^

Beauty standards in Korea are really, really specific, and if you want to become a singer/model/actor,then you have to have at least some of the Caucasian-esque facial features.Or you'll probably going to have to get plastic surgery.Of course,it's a whole different story in the Korean fashion industry, where they look for more unique and Asian-looking fashion models.
I lived in Korea for 1 year(back in the States now),and Caucasian-looking features are considered beautiful there. When you tell somebody that they look "Asian",they'd get kind of angry at you.I think Asian features are really beautiful,by the way.
By the way, most northern Mongoloids have Caucasian-esque features(like crease, high nose bridge, etc). Many Koreans are mixed between nothern Mongoloids and southern Mongoloids,so if one's more of a northern Mongoloid, then he/she'd probably look more Caucasian-ish.
See,here's the thing. In Korea they didn't really have that specific "beauty standard" thing during the 50's.So it became a huge problem for those people who had to elect Miss Korea. If you look at Kang Guihee, the first Miss Korea, you can see that she looks kind of Caucasian-ish.But Oh Gemsoon, the Miss Korea 1958, looks more Asian-ish with almond eyes, high cheekbones, etc. Also she's curvier than the first Miss Korea.Did you get it?They didn't have that "look Westerner" standard of beauty in Korea at that time. But then they thought people didn't consider Asian-looking women beautiful,so they set up the "look Westerner" standard.Look at Oh Hyunjoo, the Miss Korea 1959.She's very thin, and has double eyelids, big eyes, high nose, small face, etc.
Plastic surgery became more popular in Korea during the 90's.So the beauty standards became more specific. In 80's,they didn't care if you had square face and high cheekbones. Now some people call Kim Ryeowook ugly because of his high cheekbones and square-ish face.
So I'll just wrap it up here. They either are northern Mongoloids or had plastic surgery.Haha.=)
i think people are missing the point here. it doesn't matter how it came about as people mix all the time. most of these actors should not look caucasian-esque! i think it's sad that people are not proud of their own race. why can't the actors look full korean?? people complain about this in the black community too
I lived in Korea for three years (was in the army) Korea has been invaded a bunch so there is quite a mix of genes i guess. Also for some reason many asian people try to make themselves look more white. I don't get it but its true. My wife (who is asian) used too I never understood it. Most likely because alot of us caucasians are pricks who weary of people that look different.
The genes theory you suggested seems like a good theory.
Also I think, in Asia, there's a lot of emphasis and favour on Caucasian features like double eye lids, high noses, etc. I think a lot of the celebrities get surgery to emulate those features. Also, it is more likely for people who naturally have those features to get jobs in entertainment.
Caucasoid does not equal white. Indians and Ethiopians are caucasiod, but they are not white. White people are the direct descendants of Ethiopians. Have you ever heard this saying "Paint an Ethiopian white and he is a white man" or something like that. "White" features are not for whites only. Ethiopians have the recessive traits, but they are still black The first guy in the picture looks part arab to me. The last one looks full Ethiopian
because in the asian entertainment industry "white is right" talking about caucasian features then it's much worse in southeast asia. Take a country like the Philippines where a great deal of the celebs are mixed... none of them looking anywhere near the average citizen.. colonial mentality. In east asia they get eye lid surgery in southeast asia they use whitening lotion and mixed people... sad.
Koreans are mixed with whites from ancient times
k, most asians vary in appearance. t hey do not look like the stereotypical slitty eyes person. most stars/famous people get surgery though
probably botox!
It's called PLASTIC SURGERY. Duh. That's what stars do.
