Why do some pokemon moves fail?
I know why moves would miss or not affect another pokemon, but why do some moves just fail? I also understand that moves can fail if you use them over and over, but some of them just fail for seemingly no reason. why is that?

depending on your relashonship with your pokemon, i remeber i had doexys in pokemon emerald and it wouldnt listen to me, so i gave it a soothe bell and it eventually started to listen to me, also some may not affect the pokemon like a ground move vs a fly pokemon wont hurt it since it can fly away.
What miguel said. In addition, it really depends on the battle. As we all know, a pokemon can only be under 1 status effect at a time(burn,paralyze, freeze,poison). If you try to use a status changing effect while the pokemon is already affected by another, it will fail. I'm sure similar situations apply to other moves
