I started out with oshowatt because I knew I would need a good water type who could learn surf. I also got a mighty krookodile, a gigalith, a scolipede, and a zebstrika. You can catch a blitzle venipede and a roggenrola really soon. That was my team and I beat the whole game preety easily. Plus its cool to have pokemon that evolve multiple times.
3 really great fighting types you may wanna use are mienshao, scraggy and timbur.
Tumbur u catch in the (pinwheel forest)
and scraggy u can catch will be at the desert.
now mienshao will evolve from mienfoo which u can catch at dragonspiral tower which is at the 7th gym.. so you may wanna catch those other 2 but mienshao is a really good pokemon, it's up to you.
Elecktross is a really good pokemon that has no weakness due to the fact it has levitate.
You can catch it at icirus town i believe... 7th gym...
Darumaka is a really good Fire type that has a really powerfull evolution called Darmanitan, darmanitan has a hidden ability called Zen mode which will change it into a Psychic/ Fire type, yes way better than victini. It is up to you if you want Zen mode or just Full out Phy.Atk darmanitan.
Zen mode can only be obtained at the end of the game but Sheer Force darmanitan is great and evolves from Darumaka.
Your starter,Zekrom,Krookadile,Leipard,Cobalion,[when you get the national-dex]Absol.
[They can learn some strong moves and one [or two depending upon starter] can learn weather moves.Not only that but most can learn dark type attacks,which are strong against several types]

Oshawott is a great starter to choose.
