Navy Reserves?

I really looking into joining the military. I was thinking of going active duty, but decided on reserves instead. I would like to know if anyone is a reservist for the navy and what is it like?

  • I was in the navy reserves for 3 years 1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year. I was bored to tears on the weekends and when I went to a reserve ship in my case USS PUGET SOUND a tender in Norfolk I found myself unneeded which isn't surprising as I was a gunners mate and the weapons on the Puget were few and puny. However 2 weeks in Norfolk made for a fun vacation while being paid During my 3 years I sailed only once. This was my experience it maybe different for other reserve units. I know there are reserve combat units some of my reservist friends were sent to them on 2 week tours and said they loved it. I wish I had been sent to one I might have stayed in.

  • never been reserves, but the Navy treated me great. Don't listen to all the garbage about staying on a ship for months at a time. I did 4 years in the Navy with no ship duty. I wanted to, but I never got the chance. Congrajulations on joining!

  • Do yourself a favor -- GO AIR FORCE!!! The list of reasons is way too long to list here. Suffice it to say that I have friends in all branches of the service, both active duty and reserve, and those who do not wear Air Force blue have all said the same thing: "I wish I had joined the Air Force!"

  • it just depends what kind of job are you going to be doing. i'm a Corpsman which is a medic but it's not the same as an army or air force. email me for more info.
