Why do certain movies "bomb"?
Is it the writing? The acting? Something else? Can you think of any movies (for example, Gigli, Evan Almighty) that would have done better if they had changed something?

Mostly because those who produce the movie are too interested in their own views, and fail to account for the feelings of the audience.
Look at the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" - the producers consulted Christians after the success of "The Passion of the Christ". But they completely ignored their advisors and produced a movie that portrayed Christians as evil, and Muslims as good (I should add that I've never seen it, why would I?) Needless to say, they failed to attract the success of "Passion".
Large sections of the American public have been put off going to movies simply because they're portrayed as stupid, ignorant, power hungry, rednecks etc. Or, they go against their audience's values with gratuous violence, sex and bad language.
Yet at the same time, many of the most recent successes have been movies that promote good old fashioned values like honesty and integrity.
wow, good question. I've watched like thousands of tv series and movies and never asked of such a question to myself why they fail to have high ratings. From my perspective, i think they "bomb" because the script is bad, and some scenes just don't cut up with the whole movie. Some of "faults" might also have had to do with the actings i guess. But i think the problems lie in the script. If the script is not good, then the movie just falls off as it gets to the middle of the film. One good example would be " I Am Legend," i mean the movie's really good from the start down to the ending, but i still don't know why the director let the main actor died. It's just so ridicilous! The main actor could have just thrown the bomb to the zombies and run away with the girl instead of holding the bomb and die with the zombies. It's just wayyy tooo pathetic!
I always think that the movie The Holiday would have been ten times better if Jack Black and Cameron Diaz were not in it. It was a cute little movie and had so much potential. That is until Cameron Diaz opened her mouth. God, she's terrible.
Yeah but I don't really watch action movies..
its more like the advertising, i mean if u saw the Godfather commercials, and they sucked no one will watch it at first, but
when people talk about it theyll say it kicked @ss
I think what you mean is best movie of the year?
