97 chevy astro cooling system question please?
This is supplemental to my original question. When I got it to run again, using my emergency 2 gallon water kit, at highway speed the ram air cooled it to just above normal temp (a reasonable remedy considering it was water only and the engine had been hot, i let it cool off before indroducing water into the system). However, when i would be at a stoplight or stopped in traffic, the gauge slowly rose into the red zone of 240*-plus F.
Could it be that the fan isnt blowing on the radiator? Perhaps the fan bearing is blown out on it so it wont spin to cool the radiator?
Any thoughts on this updated state of affairs?
As always, thanks ahead of time!

yes int could be the radiator fan it should be en electric fan. now check the belt to your water pump if loose or if its even there. In your garage rev it up until its hot or real warm fan should come at about 220 degrees.make sure your ac is in the off position as not not confuse the two fans.if it doesnt check your fuse box to see if there any blown fuses especially the radiator fan. if all fuses look good check the connecting positive and negative wires to the fan.you can also unplug the fan and try to jump it directly from the battery.if no go then u need a new or used fan.If your water pumps has a small leak at the bottom.that would be an indication that you also need a new or used pump.word
The fan clutch is bad and needs replacing. It should engage when the temperature gets high. It is the part that the plastic fan blades are attached to. It unscrews from the water pump hub.
