HELP HELP HELP! Car Tax problem!!!?
Woke up this morning and my car has been clamped because my tax ran out this day last month. It's a bank holiday so I can't call anyone to remove the clamp or go anywhere to get a tax disc on the spot because everywhere is closed! I have received no reminder that the tax was due and because of exams I have been stuck in the house all day every day without thinking twice about my tax disc - totally forgot. Do you think it is likely I will be fined £1000...insurance, mot and everything up to date - just plain forgetfulness that I didn't renew it. Happy to pay release fee and back dated tax, just terrified of this big fine, going travelling for 3 months next week and this could ruin it all. Please help! I know I need to call them tomorrow to sort it out, but I need piece of mind! Thanks
Update:(i'm not looking for sympathy or criticism for forgetting, obviously I know I have been stupid for not realising it needed renewing, but i'm sure you can understand that these things are easily done and I have no problems paying what I owe...I just want to know if it's likely I will get the huge fine that I cannot afford)

Your tax is valid until midnight tomorrow
you'll still get a fine unless you SORNed your car off the road when it ran out and couldn't be bothered to renew it.
you can get your road tax online,you can print off a document to prove your car is taxed until the actual
certificate comes thru the post. Quite surprised you've not recieved a reminder as this normally informs you if your payment will be going up in price and DVLA are normally very punctual with things like that.
If you did not receive a reminder then you failed to notify the authorities of a change of address.
The reminder has the web authorisation code so you cant do it online.
It's nearly 4 weeks since it ran out - did you real not notice this for 26days?
Going traveling = having your paperwork up to date. Europeans check this as well you know.
Go to a post office tomorrow - pay to get unclamped - if any delay get it of the road. Do not drive it until legal.
You should have know when your tax was due to be renewed without being reminded, sorry no sympathy here live with it
You can pay for car tax online, just print off the receipt and take that to the clampers. Are you sure the clampers are not working today? Good luck
you can apply online at dvla, trouble is you need an in date mot certificate and the reminder. unless you have the reminder i don t think you can renew
