upgrade windows 10 onto new ssd?

Update:

I currently have windows 8.1 installed, and I have windows 10 reserved. When the time comes and windows 10 is ready to be installed, is it possible to simply install windows 10 on a new ssd? Or would I have to clone my existing hard drive to the new ssd, and then upgrade to windows 10? Also, would windows have to be re-activated?

  • Upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 first and make sure that 10 shows that it's activated. Create bootable Windows 10 install media then do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD. Windows 10 will activate automatically without having to enter a product key.

  • Whatever system you registered for the Win 10 upgrade is the one that it MUST install on. It can't be redirected to another SSD. It's coming down via Windows updates...
