If I use USAA Debit Card to pay USAA Credit Card do I get extra points?

With a USAA credit card I can get 1 point for every $1 spent. With a USAA debit card I get 1 point for every $2 spent. So lets say I spend $100 on my credit card and then pay that $100 bill with my debit card, will I get 150 points?

  • You are not able to pay a USAA credit card using any other kind of card. Payments can only be made via check or electronic payment from a checking, savings, or moneymarket account with check writing priveleges. No way to double up :(

I DO however get to pay my rent with no fee for using a card so i pay with my credit card instead of the debit card since it gets points faster, then pay my credit card right back from my checking.

  • Since I have a USAA credit card please take my comments as probably more accurate than the other answerers. The answers I've read here so far make several assumptions that aren't true about a USAA credit card With the USAA credit card, payments made online must be made before a cutoff time on a business day to count for that day. I don't know the exact time but if you make the payment in the morning you're usually fine. Scheduling your payment 1 business day late will be fine. You might get a late fee ($29) but if you call and ask and explain that you didn't know there was a cutoff time/etc they'll probably refund it. You'll need to wait until it shows up on your account to ask for a refund. You can set up automatic payments to come out the night of your military pay. Remember with usaa you get paid a day early so you can schedule your payment for 12/31 and it will come out at midnight right after your direct deposit credits. The last thing, and I love this (not that I've had to use it), USAA doesn't report a late payment until you are 60 days overdo. Don't sweat it ;) they'll take the best care of you and your family for ever and ever. *edit: USAA doesn't "jack up your interest rate" unless you are 60 days past due. And even then, it will go back down when you are caught up for 2 months after that.

  • Just use the USAA credit card and pay it off every month. I don't know why you can't pay it, your debit card is tied into your checking/savings account correct? Just set up an automatic payment out of the checking or savings account to pay the balance in full every month.

  • Ok. on the credit card you are earning 1% interest.

By using the debit cards you are earning 0.5% interest.

Is it really worth all the hassle to do this to get a measly $1.50?

If so, go for it. Make sure they don't charge fees for this.
