I've been offered Ryan Braun and Miguel Tejada for Carlos Lee and Evan Longoria. Should I take it? Braun will be eligible as an outfielder soon, and he's just as good as Lee, right?

Update:

I was also offered Prince Fielder and Orlando Cabrera for Carlos Lee and Longoria

  • Fist, Both are decent options, and I 'll Break them down.

Ryan Braun is ranked very high on all boards and goes in the first 5 picks in alot of drafts. Longoria has alot of potential but has yet to prove anything. Im assuming this is not a keeper league, so having a potential rookie of the year isnt worth the gamble, especially if hes only a year loner. Braun scares me a bit cause he has only one year to gage him on. Miggy is surrounded by great guys, but there is always the question of an investigation which could hinder his play, or be in his head anyway.

Your second Offer is much better and the one I would take and heres why. Prince Fielder will be in the top three in HR's and is playing for his huge contract. He is on a hot team and surrounded by great hitters giving him lots of RBI's to boot. You can then move Berk to the OF and have made back all of Lee's Power, and RBI's. Drew is not a great otion at SS and OC will bring you back to the top in that category. He will steal bases, score lots of runs on his new team, and have plenty of RBI ops.

Without question accept Fielder OC for Lee Longoria.

Additional: You do not need more SP like the previous guy said, your fine. You should be raking in the Offense and you have great depth at SP. Clay will surprise, quote me on that.

  • It's hard to predict what kind of season Tejada will have with all the steroid allegations. I love Ryan Braun. Longoria is a very unproven player, so you never know what you'll get out of him, plus you already have Wright @ 3b. The other trade you were offered is nice as well, with Fielder being a sure thing slugger. I like both trades for you.

So to review...I think Braun and Lee will have similar #'s. Tejada, no matter what, should outperform Longoria. In the other trade, Fielder will outperform both Lee and Longoria together, so the other player is a shoo-in. I think what you need more than the secondary player in either trade is a SP. See if you can swing one instead of Tejada.

  • I would definitely take Braun and Tejada for Lee and Longoria. Here's my reasoning. Braun won Rookie of the Year, hit 34 HR's and drove in 97 RBI in just 112 games. Thats 45 HR and 130 RBI potential alongside a .320 average and 100 Runs. He's also in a very good Brewers lineup. Tejada will give you solid numbers at SS, and probably be a good replacement for Drew at SS. While Longoria could be an amazing prospect, he has no pro experience. I don't think he will put up even Tejada's numbers. Also, I doubt Longoria will be putting up numbers to replace David Wright at 3B anyways. Once Braun gets OF, he will be a better OF than Carlos Lee. This trade makes your offense amazing. I'd Take it.

  • I take it without hesitation. someone wants a top rookie who hasnt played an inning yet and wants to give you two studs for him? you could make the argument that Braun had a better year last year. and they want to give you him and tejada for lee?

Drew is a good young player but tejada will have better stats than him this year.

braun will be at OF after 5 games (week 1)

I see the others points but Braun and lee are at least equals and tejada beats out longoria this year.

its kind of a no brainer. dont get caught up about longoria, he still is a rookie and will have some growing pains.

Braun hanst even peaked yet and carlos lee has. although he is still great!

hope that helps. Take the trade and laugh!

  • I wouldnt take that trade and I will explain to you why. Tejada is a shell of his former self with weak power at this point and really only a decent average to offer for fantasy purposes. Braun was flat out a stud last year yes, but I think its a bit too early in his young career to say he is JUST AS GOOD as Carlos Lee. Lee has had 5 consecutive seasons of 30 or more HR's and has cleared 100 RBI's 4 out of the 5 years (the other he had 99RBI). He also batted .290 or higher in 4 out of those 5 years. I'm not saying Braun isn't good, or that he wont have a great season, but I think its a bit much to expect him to continue the pace he had last year...I mean that would mean he would put up better numbers than A-rod for gods sake.

  • Braun isn't as good as CLee but Tejada is a much better option at SS than Drew so you're better off in the long run.

Drew impressed in limited duty his rookie year but his average went into the tank last season. Tejada's numbers declined as well in '07 but he still hit 48 points higher than Drew and had more HR/RBI.

Longoria won't put up Braun-like numbers this year and with Wright at 3rd you don't need him. Make the deal.
