It's like minecraft in 2D, except you have tons of crafting possibilities like gravity potions, etc.
Comparing it to minecraft, I don't think there is a way to build these mechanisms where you pull a leaver and a multiple chain reaction happens, but its still pretty cool for this RPG kind of game. Or pixel art. It's not much of an adventure because... well its 2D so I find it really limited. I personally find it quite hard single player and boring. Another cool thing about it is that what ever you achieve and have in your inventory saves onto your PC so you can play where you left off on a different save game or a multiplayer server. Yes, that does mean that you can just use an inventory editor and cheat.
I don't know much about terraria because I've played it like 6 days or so and then quit it because my friends quit it so it got kind of dull.
