Why do liberal politicians agree with Turkey's Prime Minister?

-6/3/13 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2334560/... Ex British PM Tony Blair says:

"There is not a problem with Islam. For those of us who have studied it, there is no doubt about its true and peaceful nature."

-6/3/13 http://www.itv.com/news/update/2013-06-03/cameron-... UK's PM Cameron says:

"There is nothing in Islam that justifies acts of terror."

------------

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Erdagon:

-12/09 Syrian Arab News Agency: "Islam means peace, and it cannot tolerate terrorism. We reject all attempts to link Islam with terrorism.”

-----------

I wonder if they agree with other statements by Erdagon:

-5/11/03 NY Times: “Democracy is like a streetcar. When you come to your stop, you get off.”

-8/21/07 Reported by Milliyet, Turkey: He commented on the term “moderate Islam” saying, “There

is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.”

-10/2/08 //www.expatica.com/de/news/local_news/Er… Germany -- A crowd of 16,000 expatriate Turks cheered Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a vast indoor auditorium in Germany on Sunday as he told them to resist assimilation into the West. He said, "Assimilation is a crime against humanity."

  • As a communist (which would, in your book, probably be "far-left," and rightly so), I must point out that he is fundamentally incorrect about the nature of Islam and the degree to which a person can be obsessed with it (or any religion, for that matter).

"He commented on the term 'moderate Islam' saying, 'There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.'" This is clearly a lie. Far-right philosophies, actions, and organizations (such as the Taliban) come from an extreme obsession with religion; in this case, it is Islam. To be fair, in some countries, Christianity isn't so great either. There have been some extremely obsessed Christians that have advocated the death penalty for being homosexual. There are many examples of this, and not just with homosexuality. The bottom line is that, when taken too far, religion is a plague to civil liberties.

"'There is nothing in Islam that justifies acts of terror.'" An even bigger lie. Does it not say in the Koran to eliminate enemies of Allah?

"'There is not a problem with Islam. For those of us who have studied it, there is no doubt about its true and peaceful nature.'" Same as above.

I'm not saying that religion is inherently bad, just that, when taken to the extreme, it can leave a person without a shred of common sense or compassion for his or her fellow human beings. All that matters at that point is glorifying and doing the will of a being whose existence hasn't even been proven.

Also: "He said, 'Assimilation is a crime against humanity.'" This is a lie. FORCED assimilation is a crime against humanity. Clearly, we are not tyrannical (well, much less than extreme Islamic countries), and I daresay that they and the rest of the world should follow the path to civil liberty. Governments and markets are nothing without the people.

  • Because they have hidden economic interests. Turkey is a very good ally of the West and the NATO, but any government who is really secular and sane, would point ou the fact that Islam is a violent religion and that Erdogan is an authoritarian PM. Turks are now making protests against Islamization of Turkey.

    That is why.

  • They are all the same just a different name.

You have the constitution of the USA which protects us from the government and progressives who want to control the people like Turkey, Syria, Russia and the idol of most Obama czars Mao.

The first amendment is to protect us from the government interference and yet the government with corrupt judges changed that.

One by one our freedoms are being "INFRINGED upon
