Does this make sense (politics)?

I consider myself a Libertarian Democrat. I believe that government should have as little intrusion in a person's life as possible. I believe in relatively low taxes and free market solutions. I also believe in the seperation of church and state. I'm pro-innocent-life. At the same time I have no problems with public education (the voucher alternative would be a nice add-on) and welfare programs (given they are regulated and executed properly). I believe that one should be able to opt out of Social Security. I'm registered Democrat (in my younger years, I was more liberal), but I have very little in common with the party anymore. My views might have worked with the pre-1965 Democrats, but in present day I feel like the red-headed stepchild. What do you folks think of that?

  • I think you don't understand what a free market is. Do a little research into American business around the turn of the 19th century and what happens when businesses are allowed to run free.

Once again, we have someone who believe government should have little intrusion into people's lives, but you feel free to tell a woman what she can do with her uterus.

If you allow people to opt out of Social Security, what would have happened to all the retirees who were invested in the stock market in 2007-08? Are you just going to look at them and say "Too bad"?

Your views would work much better with Republicans than Democrats today, but you would have to dump your support for public education.

  • "The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." Ronald Reagan

The Liberal ideology is a theory which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.

They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.

The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

A democracy will continue to exist up until

the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous

gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority

always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from

the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

    collapse over loose fiscal policy

A broken government can't be fixed by the same government that broke it.

  • You are perfectly normal.

EDIT: Ignore and reject mommanuke. "Run Free" is misleading. State protections confound market mechanisms. As a business, you can't screw people and still turn a decent profit without protection from Government.

EDIT: What I'm trying to say is, we didn't have a Free Market in the 19th century.

  • I am very conservative. I have been a registered Democrat for 46 years. The only Democrat I have voted for is my state Assemblyman. No one runs against him. He sends out an election brochure every two years. Besides that, he does nothing.

I am opposed to Obama and his socialism.

  • You sound more Libertarian than Democrat. Perhaps you should register as a Libertarian, especially since Libertarianism has been becoming more and more popular lately?

  • Rather then trying to pigeonhole yourself, just vote for whomever you feel is the best candidate for the job.

  • Look at the people you are voting for not a political party.

  • I think you're like a lot of Americans, it sounds like you're an independent.
