Graphics Card?

I am buying a new HP desktop and its graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 6150 LE. It has 128mb memory thing. Is that strong enough to play games?

Update:

I am talking about games like Age of Empires, Rise Of Nations, and the Sims.

  • It's strong enough to run some games, but not new ones. If you want to play the latest 3D games with nice effects and decent speeds I would recommend upgrading to at least a 7600GT or better.

The amount of memory actually has less to do with gaming performance than the power of the graphics processor. The 6150 is fairly weak for high end 3D games. A 128MB GeForce 7600GT is going to perform much better than a 256MB GeForce 6150 since the hardware chip (GPU) is far more powerful. Right now 256MB versions sell for around $100-$150 so they are the best deal for the average gamer.

    Additional note:

For Age of Empires, Sims, Rise of Nations you'll be fine with what you have. None of these games require more than a GeForce 2 video card to run full speed at maximum settings.

  • it's strong enough to play most games, But if you were going for games like battlefield 2, you would want a 256mb, 512mb Nvidia or ATI brand. If you still have a choice it would be best to get the 256mb at least, because 128mb will be outdated soon and it's the least you can buy in most stores. A better graphic cards have higher FPS(Frames per second) and Better quality.

  • 6150 isnt as bad as it should be, but it's not even close to bleeding edge. See if you can land AT LEAST a 7600GS or higher. If you can ge an ATi choice, get a 1600 or higher. Either of these should be a great all around gaming performer for a not a lot of cash. The 6150 is good for older games.

  • Yes its ok for alot of games, but you may want to look at upgrading to at least a 256mb card to play graphicly intense games. (512 is better and the price can be found for under 100$ on sites like new egg)

  • not really, but it'll do for now. In the coming months, though, it won't keep up. I suggest you upgrade it now, while you can. If you can afford it, get a new DirectX 10 compliant card, as most to all new games will begin supporting the new standard.

  • Basic games from 5 years ago, yes.

  • 128 is perfectly fine,

if you are planning on raising to online first person shooters or nice new MMO's, i'd suggesting upgrading to 256 if your a gamer

  • yes. Just depends on the games.

  • depends on the game... I'm running quite a bit more for F.E.A.R. but my previous 5600 did fine for lower end and older games.

  • ya but i would get a better one just so you have no lag or any thing and get good internet
