do parakeets naturally fly to humans?

So i just got this parakeet, my friend said it landed on his dad at work, but he gave it to us.

This is its 4th week living in our house. My brother recently let him out of the cage cuz he said "your supposed to let birds fly around to get to know you better."

Funny thing is it flew straight onto my head....

then i shook him off and it flew to my moms shoulders...stayed there..i tryed to catch him but he flew back onto my head and walked onto my shoulders..then eventually i flew him back to onto of his cage and opened the roof of it and put him back in....

the bird is really small and it was found by my friends dad, but its kinda weird it flew to me and my mom?? but it doesnt go on my finger..lol it walks the other direction i guess its scared.

  • letting them out to fly does nothing to help them get to know you...if the bird was found it is possible he got out and there could be someone looking for him, put up ads in your neighborhood, petstore, vet office and on your local craigslist in hopes the owners can be found.

It sounds like he was handled alot and likes human interaction...becareful with a flighted bird in your home they are alot of things they can get into and may get hurt, they can fly into windows and walls and get hurt. I would leg him be in the cage and try and find the owners.

If owners are not found then you have found a new companion, in order to work with him a wing clipping to trim the flight feathers can help you with handling and working with the budgie. also read up as much as you can on bird care as their diet is more than just seeds they also need fresh vegetables and grains such as cooked brown or wild rice.

don't feed avacodo, rhubarb, onion, garlic to them it is toxic to them, also non-stick cookware releases a gas that can be harmful to birds other things that are commonly used in homes that are harmful to birds are scented candles, the scented plugs ins, carpet fresheners, strong smelling cleaners.

  • A lot of tame birds get lost in storms or windy weather when their cage gets knocked over. The bird you have sounds like this is possibly what happened to the bird you have. If you do advertise the bird as being found, only put the type of bird that it is. Let the callers tell you the colour and sex and any little markings the bird might have. This way they will prove that it is really theirs or not. A lot of unscrupulous people claim pets that aren't really theirs. Ask for proof. And NO! , a wild bird will not fly to a human. The bird needs interaction with humans to trust them.

  • Your bird appears to be fairly well domesticated. Evidently it was allowed on heads and shoulders . The bird is used to people as an untrained bird will not go to strangers. It was once someone's pet .

  • Birds like to go to tall objects it makes them feel dominent your head and shoulders are high up. It has nothing to do with you being a human

  • my friend trained his to do the same it must be a escaped bird you should try to do the right thing and put up an ad or look for its owner in the lost and found sections of the paper.
