Do pirate movies encourage real life pirates?
I know there are times when I wanted to be a pirate when I was a little kid, the thrill seeking life of Johnny Depp looking for treasure with exciting adventures seems to be the way to go. But recently I been hearing stories of more and more pirate attacks, I'm not saying I have anything against the movies I just feel as though pirates shouldn't be portrayed as a kind of vigilante. Yes we all know it's a movie but kids are more easily influenced by them than adults are, I can't help but feel that some of the modern day pirates are influenced by those movies.

Arrgh matey! That be true...
Doubtful. Odds are they haven't even seen them in Somalia. It's a country without a government. Pirates are encouraged by money, not some colorful movie character.
The actual people attacking the ships are just hired guns and the fact is they are paid very poorly. The people running the plots are very well funded and have surely seen the movies over the internet, but they were pirating long before the movies ever came out.
I am reasonably certain that none of the Somali pirates have ever seen "Pirates of the Caribbean."
You might want to watch the South Park episode "Fatbeard" in order to enlighten yourself.
That particular episode happens to be airing tonight at ten Eastern on the Comedy Channel.
All the time! but nowdays they don't make boats like they used to. -and it's not "threatening" to have a skull on your flag. After pirate school you realize that once you're in... theres no leaving. I have a degree in pirating and I've been blessed with treasures and daily adventures all thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean and PeterPan. My dream came true!
Argh me hearties!
Perhaps this question yeee be hurdin' my tumbleskin. It only inspiarghhs the meatiest of pirates out there in the quiet ol' see.. you see, all ye' need is a pirate movie, a couple'o'young pal's, and a nice kisket of rum!!
argggh!!!
Really? You think the pirates that take people hostage, kill them and blow up boats are inspired by Johnny Depp?
Do real life pirates have hooks for hands?
Do real life pirates have wooden legs?
Do real life pirates say "ARGH"?
Modern-day "pirates," like drug dealers and other criminals, are influenced by poverty, not Orlando Bloom movies.
i would bloody love to be a pirate
