Running problem....A cramp?

I've recently noticed that when I run, sometimes I get something like a knot on my one of my shins(usually the left one). It feels soft not like muscle and I get it about 1 in every 3 times I run...and my shin burns like im powerwalking. Is this some sort of cramp or what? Also, I run on a treadmill and I go for about 2-4 miles each time.
BTW I hardly ever stretch, I warm up by walking 5min....and thank you in advanced for your input

You have shin splints. You need to stretch, especially your calves, before and after running.
As my coach puts it, shin splints are your fault.
