How do pregnancy tests work?

I took one yesterday and after the given time it was negative but looking at it today there's a faint line. Should I consider that a positive or no

  • Anything after the time limit is an invalid results. The dye can begin to show after the time limit as the urine evaporates, causing an evaporation line.

If it didn't show up in the time frame, it's not a valid result.

  • Pregnancy tests work by detecting a specific hormone in a pregnant woman's urine. After dipping or placing a urine sample on the indicator, pregnancy is confirmed by a "+" or another line, according to the manufacturers directions. That is why the test won't indicate pregnancy that is only a few days old. After the test is run, the the test indicates whether "pregnant" or "not pregnant" and that is the end of the test! Hope this helps.

  • No the test is only good for up to 10 minutes of taking it after that it is not good anymore at all. You can wait a week and re take a test to see if still no period has come by then sometimes it takes awhile for the HCG levels you get while pregnant only to show on a test that is what the test looks for so there for there can be false negatives but never a false positive on a test. They say to wait at least 4 weeks after the unprotected sex to test.
