Adebayor As A Midfielder?

What do you think of this? I say because:

I am an arsenal fan! I will say this without regret but with critisism from

other fans. Adeybayor is NOT a striker! Yes last season he had alot of

goals, but how many of them did he actually create? As in, made something out

of nothing? NONE! How many chances does Ade get before he hits the back of the

net? Numerous chances per game! I actually sat and counted Ade's chances vs

goals. It works out to be just over 3 chances to strike once. I'm not being

overly critical of Ade, as a fan I want whats best and I will critique my team

more than others, as its my team! i cant be bothered with what other teams are

doing! My idea of a striker is someone who can hit the net and create space and

opportunity in nearly non existant scenarios. Ade is NOT this. What I love about

Ade though, is his ability to "hold up" a ball! Many times I have been enticed

watching Ade hold up the ball until other arsenal players are in position. This

is a skill that alot of other players lack. Picture this, Ade with that sort of

skill playing behind Van Persie rather than upfront. I HONESTLY think Ade would

make a better CF or CM. I'm serious. Whats even better is if he scores , Happy

day, if he doesnt, we cant be critical of him losing form, or having too many

chances to hit the nets, he wont be a striker anymore! Another thing is, I like

Eboue. For those that say he is nonsense, that isnt really true. On many

occasions he has pierced the flank and gotten the ball in the box only to be let

down. The fans are not making it any easier on him as well. His confidence is

low, but he still marches on!

  • you are right in a way, but how do we possibly do that now we have arshavin? arshavin's role is playing just behind the main striker, like kaka. adebayor is good at holding up the ball? yes. but we need to give the man a chance. he has a great aerial threat, so that could make us a more effective team, that scores easily from set pieces. he will get back in form, he is only 24, he has not hit his peak just yet. maybe when he is 26 or 27 at arsenal, he will really begin to hit his pinnacle. i understand where you are coming from though, and if it means we must do that to stay in the top 4, we should.

i also agree on eboue. he is an excellent right back, going forward from the back. he has alot of pace on the right, especially when overlapping or coming from deep. i think he doesnt deserve all the hate he gets, he is trying as hard as he can.

  • finally an arsenal supporter who isn't ready to throw eboue under the bus. i think eboue is a great player and could be converted into a CDM. adebayor is brilliant with his first touch and creating his own space, and like you stated this gives him a chance to hold the ball and wait for other arsenal players to join in the attack. i just don't think he has the work rate to play in the midfield. he drifts in and out of matches, sometimes he is barely going through the motions. I have thought about arsenal playing a 4-1-4-1 with ade as the lone striker but again his work ethic comes into question. still refreshing to see another fan of eboue. cheers.

  • you have some good points

    BUT

we need to keep him up front as a large target to collect long balls and be a constant aerial threat

And I have great respect for fellow Arsenal fans like you that have not forgotten Eboue's worth. He was great as a RB and in my opinion better than Sagna, at attacking at least, but when Man Utd games came around and he was assigned to the likes of Ronaldo he did his job very well. Anyone who says Eboue is a bad player is being very very ignorant of all he has done for us in the past before being pushed up and out of position.

  • Adebayors current form just confirms that last season was one off. Even if he starts scoring from Sunday, i will still see him as over-rated. And just to think the fuss this guy tried to stir up during the summer transfer window, he should be happy he is even in the team at the moment because when Eduardo comes back and can find his rythmn, he will be a much potent threat in attack. Why? Eduardo only needs one chance and he will bury it!

  • i know he just need to train his finishing. his finishing has been poor since the last time he scored a goal.

but i don't really think he will do better as a midfielder because his passing is kinda poor too.

just keep him as a striker. trust wenger.

  • Over rated one season wonder if you ask me

  • Hes overrated mate.
