16 Volts Ohms raise True/False?

I heard that with raised voltage eg 16 volts on the minimum Impedance it makes it distorted true or not and secondly I know what I amdoing I was going to run the Audio Pipe AP3000d Its a 2 channel runs very good I will be running 2 Lanzar Optidrive 1533d on them and yes the amp is able to run at this voltage it can go up to 18 volts which I hear people do and these amps are under rated and do very well don't worry I handle technical this inst my first system It was just easier here than on smd forums by the way I am Yates

  • Well, let's take a broader look at the power ratio. For a given impedance power is proportional to the square of the voltage. In this case you are talking about raising the voltage from about 14 to about 16 (I hope there is no battery across that or it will be cooked in a few days). That is a 14% increase, so the maximum output power increases 31%. That is 1.16 dB (20 log 1.306) increase in power. The smallest increase a human ear can hear is about 1 dB at midrange frequencies; it takes more change as the frequencies get lower or higher. You can do it but you will not be able to hear the difference.

18 volts (battery life under an hour at that much overcharge if a battery is floated across it) will give 2.18 dB power increase.
