how do i factor this problem?

4x^3-8x^2-25x+50

I can't figure out or remember how to do this. I know that this is done in pieces, but i don't know where to start! Help!

  • factor out 4x^2 from fist two terms and -25 from last two terms

    then it will become

    4x^2(x - 2) - 25(x - 2)

    now factor out x - 2

    (x - 2)(4x^2 - 25)

these are the factors of given polynomial

  • use grouping

    (4x^3-8x^2)-(25x+50)

    factor

    4x^2(x-2)-25(x-2)

    (4x^2-25)(x-2)

    you can expand (4x^2-25)

    a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b)

    (2x)^2-5^2

    (2x+5)(2x-5)

    answer: (2x+5)(2x-5)(x-2).

  • 4x^3-8x^2-25x+50=

    (4x^3-8x^2)-(25x-50)=

    4x(2x-2)-25(x-2)=

    (x-2)(4x-25)

  • (4x^2-25)(x-2)
