Is Coca Cola a good drain opener?

for the shitter LOL when all plunging efforts have been failed. Will caffeine do the trick?

Thanks.

  • Coke will not do anything. Draino will work on sink drain, but will not do much good on toilets. I would use a plunger or, if that does not work, I would snake it out with a tool you can either purchase or rent depending on how much snaking you have to do. You have to determine where the plug is and it would be my assessment that it is in the pipes going fromthe toilet to the septic or sewer lines.

Could be roots and that requires a larger snake with a cutter in it.

  • If Coke has any drain-opening power, it is the acid in it that does the trick, not caffeine. Drain-O has much more concentrated acids.

If the clog is really, really bad, then it has to be routed out with a tool called a snake, or a power router. Once the drain is opened, then use a enzyme product to keep it open. Preventative maintenance is much better than a toilet that overflows!

  • Coca-cola is phosphoric acid aka muriatic acid. Normal drain cleaner is sodium hydroxide, a strong base. Don't use either in a toilet as they will tend to deglaze the porcelain. If you have a clogged toilet, buy yourself a toilet auger, they range in costs from $5 at Walmart to $75 at Lowes with the main difference being the length of the cable. A toilet auger differs from a standard auger in that there's a plastic tube to help you guide it past the first bend without scratching up the porcelain. I would usually auger before I would plunge. I plunge only if the auger doesn't reach the clog and as a last resort in hopes of not having to buy a more expensive auger.

  • If you can't get the turd unstuck with plunging then a little bit of Coke isn't going to help

  • Fill your drain with baking soda, then pour Coke in it and it will CLEAN the drain and unstop it IF it's not ''REAL'' bad. I use it every month or so to keep our drains clean and ordor free.
