Do you consider JROTC as military?

Recently I was reading that ASMIC ( American Society of Military Insignia Collectors) might drop JROTC Insignia from their articles. The reason is that JROTC isn't really part of the military. Do you think JROTC is part of the military or just a high school class?

  • It is considered "Para-Military". Just like the Boy Scouts.

There is training and classes, but there is no real standard for entrance, anyone can join.

Anyone who thinks they are real Military is sorely mistaken.

  • I consider JROTC as a high school course with a military backdrop. So first it is a class than a military program.

  • Consider JROTC as a prep school/classes!

An individual will be better prepared when he/she enlists or join ROTC in College!

If an individual completed JROTC in High School, when enlisting in the military, he/she will join as an E-3.

same deal with an Eagle Scout.

  • I consider the JROTC a group of youths involved in said group, likewise the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts. It is the interests of those individual youths who join these groups.

  • Its just a class. A group. No I don't consider it military.

  • it is part of military as "reserved"

they can be the last resort to be called to go for war when "all" the official military are gone.

  • No, because they're just preparing for it. They're not necessarily serving. Though, it can be referred as "Reserves" as some people call it.
