Iris as a boy name..?

What do you think? And if not, a male equivalent or similar name?

Update:

I guess I should also add my interests

I love music, I've been playing the piano since before I could walk and the violin for about 6 years, (I'm 15). I love reading, I write and draw too. I like the name Iris because eyes have always been important things to me for some reason, and it's unusual and says something about me I guess. Could I use it as a surname? And anybody got a first name idea judging by my interests?

  • Spelling it different may help, like Oiris or Oris instead?

I think of my Nan when i hear Iris, as its a moderately womans name BUT i like it for a boy tho, its very different.

Oisin (Óisín) is the Irish Male version of Iris...

I like Eoin for some reason, Irish again, i just think its unusual....

  • It is typically a girls' name, but I say, forget about convention, times are changing anyway. If you like the name Iris, change your name to Iris. Personally, I think it would be cute for a boy to be named Iris, as long as you're not afraid to be teased by some less open-minded guys. Besides, changing to a woman's name seemed to work for Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson.

  • It could be both because if you have a girl and name it iris them you would give her a girly middle name. If your a boy then yes i guess i mean to me it sounds like both just have a manly middle name or last name:)

  • Unless you're also planning on changing your physical sexual attributes, I think it's a very bad idea. What is it that you like about the name? Its sound? The long I sound or the "iss" sound? Maybe Ivan or Tristan (nickname: Tris), Chris/Kris. You can Google boy names, boy names beginning with I, to see more alternatives.

  • It's 100% a girls name, as are most names based on flowers. How about Ira for a boy? It's a dorky name, but at least it's similar to what you want.

  • No Iris is definitely a girls name however IRA as in George and Ira Gershwin (brothers) is possible

  • I think it can be a boy's name. It does however a feminine quality to it. How about Ira, it's a traditional hebrew name for men or women.

  • I'm sorry to say but that kid would probably get made fun of if you named him that... I mean its cute, for a girl...

    help me?
