paragard birth control longer periods?? help?
I had my IUD inserted on the 17th.. then I started spotting.. but it didn't last.. later that day I started cramping and bleeding like a period...So i figured it was my period... then it just kept getting heavier and heavier since. Its now the 27th (10 days) and I'm still bleeding so heavy with cramps! Is this normal?????
(I just had a baby 2 months ago idk if this has anything to do with it but I been stopped bleeding from that about 5 days after having my son)

When you first get your Paraguard inserted it is very common to have some irregular and heavy bleeding for the first couple of months until your uterus is used to having the device in place. I bled off and on for about 3 weeks after insertion, had a week of no bleeding, then got my period, it was heavy but only lasted 3 days, then it stopped and my periods went back to normal. If you're bleeding so heavily that you're saturating pads in less than an hour, or passing clots larger than an egg, you should call your doctor. If you continue to bleed for more than another week or two, call your doctor. Sometimes you might need a medication to stop the bleeding, and they might want to check your hemoglobin to make sure you haven't become slightly anemic from blood loss.
And yes, having a baby recently could also be influencing all this extra bleeding.
I don't think it's abnormal and if you were my patient I would advise you to wait it out.
