9th grade algebra please help!?

The length of a table is 4 cm more than its width.Its area is 117 cm2.Find its dimensions.

Comments

  • (x)(x+4) = 117

    x^2 + 4x = 117

    x^2 + 4x -117 = 0

    (x+13)(x-9) = 0

    since you cant have a negative length, x = 9 and x+4 = 13

    9x13 = 117

  • the equation is:

    w(w+4)= 117. didtribute:

    w^2+4w=117. turns into:

    w^2+4w-117=0

    factor. find the roots. pick the positive one as width. add 4 to that for length and check.BAM

    pretty good for a going on eight grader, huh?

  • the equation would be

    x(x+4) = 117

    x2 +4 = 117

    -4 -4

    x2= 113

    square root of x2 = square root of 113

    x= 10.63

    length is equal to 14.63

    width is equal to 10.63

  • square root of 29.25

    equation- 4x * x = 117

  • why are you still in school? ahah
