Car problems....?
Hi i have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo LS my problem is that once i reach about 60-65 mph it doesnt want to go any faster after that...it accelarates fine from the start but when im on a highway and reach about 65 it wouldnt go any faster...any suggestions?...i was thinking it would be my spark plugs if thats the case then i was thinkin of throwing on some bosch platinum series spark plugs...before i bought the car my uncle who used to drive it prior to me said it was fine on highways and hes a big dude too about 250 lbs...maybe i need to put a higher octane of gas maybe 91 although it only requires an 87 octane...plz any advice would be helpful so next time i go on a trip with my friends i can actually catch up to them...and btw even if i have a full car with ppl or im by myself it still slow...my oil is fine i put in a synthtic blend and my tires are on 35 psi.
Update:the car is a 6 cylinder...wut makes you say the clogged cat is not the problem since its a 6?
Comments
if its 4 cylinder. Yes, have that catalytic converter checked out.
If its 6 cylinder, Use ngk, or denso plugs only. Do not use bosch, your problem will be worse. when changing plugs the rear coil tubes are longer than the front so put those back in the back.
it sounds like a compression problem, it could be that it is only firing on 3 cylinders instead of four,. (depending on how many cylinders it has)
you need to go and have i compression test done and work on from there....
do not put higher octain in as the engine will surly pack up and die, not right away but later on.
in regards to plugs,,,try and get hold of bosch super 4's...
they are brill..
hope it helps...
davecat3 is right... a tune up may solve your problem...but i had a 95 dodge ram 1500 and the same thing happened to me and i brought it to the shop and they told me my cat was clogged...so i took a steel rod a rammed it through my cat so i wont pass emissions but my truck ran great until i rolled it. but definitely try and give it a tune up. good luck
it sounds like you need a tune up plugs, wires, distrib, cap, rotor and deff.a fuel filterthe fuel filter can deff. cause that type of problem like you are saying.....
is your check engine light on? if not u dont have a misfire. could be converter is pluged. or low fuel preasure.
