How does technological progress work?
I understand how we can't stop it from moving forward or move it backwards, but how much does society have control over it? Can society even change which direction in which it moves forward?

It's a very complicated process with multiple steps involved. It involves scientists developing new theories, technologies, etc. Then eventually industry will start to convert these into new products and introduce them to society.
It's hard to control this very much. You can promote development in certain areas by funding it, and corporations often try and focus on things that will get them more profits.
In theory society can control the progress, but a few big money people exert most of the control and that is not likely to change. What change do you recommend?
