You could do research on bacteria in common places around your school. How clean is the bathroom, how clean are the water fountains, etc? You could also work on what anti-bacterial soaps or cleaning products work the best. You can do culture tests with agar, let them sit for several weeks and see what sample grows the most bacteria.
jessica had a good idea. Look into bioremediation, it is very interesting stuff. Well if you actually have to do the experiment instead of just write about it, it may be easier to do germs from around the school. Someone in one of my classes tested different anibacterial products, like soaps and hand gels for efficacy.
Ugh, if I have to see one more "project" that grows bacteria from the water fountain I will go insane. There is nothing interesting or original about it at all, it has to be the single most common project ever.
What kind of materials do you have access to? There is not a whole lot you will be able to do that is original. Do you have resources to do PCR stuff? Restriction enzymes?
Osmosis, look at a plant cell under a MS and then put it in a salt solution for around 90 mins. look agian and see how the cell shrinks.....this is what we did in my lab class. So your question could be why would salt make a cell shrivel...? Just a thought
