Look through the history of NY mayors and you will see that he would probably be in the same spot he's in right now without 9-11.
William O'Dwyer, Vincent Impeltier, Abe Beam, John Lindsay, Robert Wagner, all democrats, all surrendered vast swaths of NYC to drug dealers and pimps. It wasn't until Ed Koch, a conservative Democrat hit the scene did NY begin to turn around. His work was stalled by David Dinkins when he returned to the catch and relase liberalism of the past.
Finnally, when the first Republican since LaGuardia took over the city, it became the modle metropolis we know today.
It was a monumental task.
He erased 43 years of stupidity in just five years.
Make no mistake about it, this guy knows how to manage and has proved it.
Nonetheless, I think Hillary can beat him.
I will vote for Romney because he is the far better alternative.
All politicians use grief and tragedy as a means to gain power, fame and credibility. When s problem comes into existence, people look for leaders that offer solutions. However as we all know, politicians are corrupt and worthless in the long hull. So finds ways to get rid of tragedy (or prevent it), you get rid of the need for these types of people
Some are opportunists, while some create such problems to get into authority.
And the ex mayor of NYC is no different. He claims credit for helping out with the 9/11 when really it is the fire men and rescue crews who did the work, while all he did was get on a soap box and yelled "I saved ya guys!" Yet this is good enough for him to run for president.
He certainly thinks so. He can't speak for 2 minutes without some reference to 9/11. What's most amusing is that he really didn't do much that day besides hold the city's hand and help to establish some order. Still, it was more than the US government did. Otherwise, just another neo-con vulture feasting on the dead.
Michael Bloomberg is not only a better mayor of New York than Rudy Giuliani - he'd make a better President, too.
That's the result of a Daily News poll released today that asked the voters who know best - New Yorkers - which man belongs in the White House.
City voters overwhelmingly chose Mayor Mike over America's Mayor as their pick for President, 46% to 29%.
I like that everything Bloomberg said he is going to do for the city, he did. There are more charter schools and I like that," said Sharran Roberts, a 30-year-old mother from Bushwick, Brooklyn.
"[Giuliani] did over his wife, he did over [New Yorkers] and he is not going to do it with the country," Roberts said.
In the poll, Bloomberg trounces Giuliani among every demographic group as a better mayor and potential President except Republicans and voters under age 30.
He owes it to the way he responded to two tragedies. The deplorable condition of a crime ridden city before he took office and the tragedy of 9-11. He is the best thing that has happened to NYC since Mayor LaGuardia.
You are obviously not from NYC...Giuliani is responsible for implementing a crime prevention program responsible for lowering the overall crime rate in NYC 57% (67% drop in the homicide rate) during his time in office. He made New York the safest big city in America after decades of it being the opposite.
No, he was well on his way to becoming a national figure with his brilliant handling of the mess handed to him when he became mayor of New York city. His greatness under fire on 9/11 only cemented his credentials

On the national level, yes. That doesn't change the validity of his popularity or what he has to offer though.

Absolutely. He was able to step up where Bush failed us and has been using it ever since.
As Biden stated, Guiliani only says three things when he talks, "a noun, a verb, and 9/11".
He owes it to the way he responded to two tragedies. The deplorable condition of a crime ridden city before he took office and the tragedy of 9-11. He is the best thing that has happened to NYC since Mayor LaGuardia.

He was famous before 9/11. He cleaned up a lot of problems in New York ( according to the history channel).
Tenny Beeny has got it -V.
A lot of people do.
Eisenhower owed his to WWII, U.S. Grant to the civil war, Dan Rather to the assassination of JFK.
If there were no tragedies, there would be no heroes.
