Texas, Kentucky, or Colorado?

I'm pondering relocation to one of these states and I'm hoping you can help me.

I'm married with young kids (wife and I are in our 20s). We're looking for a kid-friendly town that is full of good parks and good jobs. We are outdoorsy evangelicals and Republicans so we're looking for a state with plenty of like-minded people.

Weather isn't a big deal as long as it's sunny.

We've checked 'em all out and Colorado looks like the best bet--so far--because Denver seems most kid-friendly (great suburbs), most Republican, and best for evangelicals. The mountains are great, too.

What would you do?

  • Texas and Colorado!

  • I've been to all three states many times (I lived in New Mexico which is by texas and colorado and now live in tennessee which is by kentucky) and of all of them, I would say Colorado, hands down! I have always loved it there. There's plenty to do, beautiful scenery and it's just soooooooo nice. I'm not a fan of Texas at all. I just don't like that state one bit. Kentucky is also very nice and pretty but I still say Colorado is better.

  • Colorado

  • Texas stinks, dont know about kentucy try Colorado. nahh kidding..i went to colorado 6 months back and i loved it. its kid friendly and also you mentioned you like out doors. nothing like home of the rockies for that. i was driving at night and i have never seen so many stars at night it was really magnificient. the weather was great too. texas is humid and it stinks that i was not kidding. you said you liked mountains colorado has it, you wanted suburbs colorado got it. when i drove their from los angeles it was amazing how there was this huge city inside came out of nowhere surrounded by mountains....homes are affordable as well...& if you like basketball nuggets are bound to get better and better. their airport is fairly new. ft collings and colorado springs are in top 10 cities to live. its really clean there. fresh air as well, the only bad part about colorado i would say the broncos! but im a raiders fan lolz.

  • Take me residing house us of a street to the position the position I belong COLORADO mountain mama take me residing house us of a street Yeah the words do not truly have colorado in it yet I used to stay there. it really is so acceptable and tremendous there. 2d is Texas, I stay 32 miles north of texas, so no biggie there very last is Kentucky, my brother went there once, he in no way needs to flow decrease back lower back

  • My sister moved to Kentucky from Texas and HATES living in Kentucky... plus that state is a commonwealth, which is weird on taxes and pay. My hubby also lived in Kentucky for awhile, different area, and hated it too. So I definitely wouldn't suggest Kentucky.

Colorado is probably a good choice, but fairly chilly, etc.

Texas has no state income tax. Get a lot of home for your money. (ex - 1800 sq. ft. home on average about $140K) Very good variety. You have mountains, plains, desert, hill country, coastline - definitely a lot of different landscapes in one state. And since winter weather is few and far between - schools and businesses usually shut down when it snows/ices. Don't have to worry about getting out in it like you might in CO.

Don't know about CO or KY, but in TX (at least in the cities) you have a church almost on every corner, and there are a wide variety of churches (lutheran, baptist, evangelical, episcopal, catholic, unitarian, etc.)

You might want to look up the state laws for each state as well to compare differences. Looking up things like tax-breaks, income tax, commonwealth, is the state "at will" for employment, etc.

  • Kansas.

Just kidding. From what you're saying and what it sounds like you're looking for, Colorado would be the best pick. You've already said that you like it. I would go there. My husband and I pondered between Arizona and Colorado. AZ won us over, but CO was a super-close second.

  • Colorado. I have been to every state in the Union and Colorado is in my top 5...for many of the reasons you mention.

Oh yeah....I was born in Denver, CO so I might be a bit prejudice.

    Have a safe trip.

  • Absolutely Colorado! You just can't go wrong. Lots of outdoors activities and great folks! I've lived here for 12 years and I would not even consider living anywhere else. I do allot of traveling out west to satisfy my fanatic climbing habit...and no where has appealed to me nearly as much as Colorado. If you come out this way look us up for some whitewater rafting! • I have a friend with young children who moved to Louisville, CO (near Boulder) three years ago. They love it. Good schools. Close to the mountains. He even says that the winters are much milder than you would expect.
