Honda S2000 as a first car?

So ive been looking at cars and the only car that seems to catch my attention is a honda S2000 ive always loved hondas and the S2000 is just a beautiful car not because of how it looks but because of the legacy behind it. Im 17 and i have a bit money saved up enough for a S2000 ive looked up plenty in my spare time i drive a pick up truck but its my brothers and we talked and its time for my own car but im not sure if a S2000 is the right one because i dont wanna get a nice car and mistreat it or anything like that i know a lot about car for my age because ive always been into the car seen since i was a little kid and ive read a lot of books in school about cars and how they work i just need advice or weather i should get the car and if i do what should i worry or look out for.

Thank you and please no negative comments its not needed.

Update:

PS i found one for 8,500 with 150K miles not sure if thats a good deal or not.

  • HAHAHA S2K insurance quotes are CRAZY! Especially since you're 17. I'm 20 and it's still expensive to insure my 20+ year old Hondas.

Either way, the S2000 is/was a great car. They're a blast to drive. As long as you have a good amount of monthly income, go for it. I prefer to build older ones, but that's just what I've always been into.

Since you're asking what you should look out for, you can't know much about cars. I've been ripped off a couple times, so I've learned. If they say its been rebuilt, fixed, etc. etc. ask for receipts or proof. "Oh I'm a mechanic and did it myself" No thanks. I ALWAYS compression check a vehicle I have cash in hand ready to buy. You might just want to see if the person wouldn't mind taking it to the shop of your choice (preferably a Honda dealer) to have them look it over and suggest what needs replacing. Base your offer off of that.

  • The S2000 is a race car made for the road and I strongly suggest buying one.

Very reliable, but that seems like high miles.

Assuming (because you didn't state the year) it's a 2000 model, the price is reasonable, but I would definitely have the motor carefully looked over.

Try to get one that is stock and hasn't been modified or altered.

The S2000's had two types of owners.

One type, ran the hell outta of them and the other type, babied it to death.

So, a babied 150,000 miles is a lot different than a bunch of hard ones.

Also, CarFax it, cuz a lot of S2000's got wrecked after inexperienced drivers couldn't handle it.

If your smart you buy it baby it and drive it like the collectors car its headed to be! this is a fine car! power, handling etc. they don't offer this car model anymore and it will be a collectors some day. yes insurance will be tough especially at 17 but mark my words don't rack up miles, don't abuse it and you may someday double your investment. Nissan made a roadster while still Datsun the original name called the 2000 roadster. an MG looking roadster and today they are rare and valuable to collectors!

  • first check insurance it's liable to be more than the car
