Graphics card problem?
I bought a game that doesn't run properly because it requires a vertex/pixel shader 1.x. I'm assuming that i need to buy a new graphics card, so can anyone recommend one? If so, will it be ok on my motherboard, which is 6 years old?

As long as it is not a laptop. You cannot usually upgrade the graphic cards on laptops. If your computer is six years old, even a cheap new PC is going to be much better.
You'll need to check why type of graphics card you have. 6 years old probably means AGP and those cards have been replaced by PCI-E (not to be confused with regular PCI) so are hard to come by and are a bit more expensive.
Open up the side of your case and have a look at the motherboard. If the slot where the card goes in is red (maroon actually) or chocolate coloured, it's AGP. If it's white, it's PCI-E.
Before doing any of that, go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers. A lot of graphics problems are sorted this way.
Any of the modern graphics cards with on board (PPU)
It's a processor that processes a certain type of graphic for realistic affects.
If your motherboard supports pci - express buy ATI 4850 512 MB.
Its the best solution
