How can I transfer Vinyl onto CD?

I recently bought a bunch of pretty rare vinyl LP's and singles, I want to be able to transfer them onto CD format, so I can transfer them to my computer. I figure if you could use blank cassette tapes to copy onto from vinyl, you can with CD's too.

  • If you buy a USB phono interface - you can record them direct to your computer and then burn CD's from the recorded files:

  • Yes you can, all you need are some cables and some software. This is far better done on a PC rather than a dedicated CD recorder, because software allows you to manipulate and edit the recording to suit your needs perfectly.

There are devices around that offer USB connectivity in a record deck, but if you have a turntable with a suitable amp and a PC with a soundcard, all you need is a simple cable and you are good to go.

The USB turntables generally all use the same software which as it happens, is freely availble for download from soundforge (Audacity), however I would reccommend looking at some of the more user-freindly (and inexpensive) packages that are available (such as Magix audio cleaning) because if you have a few recordings to make, the added features (auto-track recognition, audio cleaning 'wizards' and built-in CD burning) make the task a lot easier...
