11) An irrational number can become rational by dropping a few decimal places? true or false

Comments

  • what do you mean by dropping a few decimal places?

irrational numbers have infinitely many numbers after the decimal point.

if you mean like changing 3.14159265.... to just 3.14, yes it becomes rational.

  • False.

If you drop a few decimals, you make a different number.

1.414, a rational number, is close to (but different from) the square root of 2.

    False..

An irrational number is best defined as "Any number that cannot be expressed in a fraction form"

Also, it is considered irrational if the decimal has no specific pattern to it.

    Such as "pi"... ( 3.1415926...)

Hmm. it actually depends on how many decimal places you drop.

  • Not a few, an infinite number is required, so false.
