How many times do you feed your dog a day?

What if they're a puppy?

Update:

Sorry! I should've elaborated. She is a little Pomeranian just over 5lb

  • My vet says that tiny breeds, such as the Pom, should be fed small amounts 3 times a day. Just separate the appropriate, recommended, healthy amount of food into three rations. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. If they don't seem to want the 2nd meal, you can safely cut it out of the routine. Either way, the amount you feed should be the same, just rationed differently - into either 3 parts or 2 parts.

Growing puppies of all breeds, under 6 months of age, should be given the opportunity to feed 3 to 4 times a day.

  • There should be a chart on the side of your dog food bag or can with suggested amts according to your dogs weight. i feed my dog three meals a day and just divide the suggested amt into three.

But you should also take into consideration your treats.

for instance I have3 an english bulldog (10 months), I feed him iams proactive puppy food and on the chart on the bag it suggests 2 -2 1/2 cups daily for 40-49 lbs. So I feed him 2/3 cup per meal and give him about 6 medium size milk bone treats per day so he get adequate calories but not too much that he becomes over weight. I don't know that you would have to worry about that too much though.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

  • My dog eats after we eat our evening meal because he is holding out for the table scraps. We have tried feeding him twice a day and tried free feeding, and the food just sits there untouched. The cats might take a bite but the dog won't eat.

I do keep a supply of those Chicken OR Duck tenders on hand and he will occasionally accept one of those.

The dog is an 80 pound Black Lab.

  • I feed my maltese mix 3 times a day when she was a puppy and a adult. She gets at the least 1/8c-1/2cup max daily. She gets walks daily from 1 hr-90 minute walk depending on the day.Her weight's steady at 7 lbs since she was 7 months old and monitored at home monthly.

  • For my adult dogs, I feed them twice a day. Puppies should be fed at least 3 times a day -- more often if they're a particularly small puppy.

  • When my dog was a puppy I fed him 3 times a day, now that he's an adult I feed him twice a day :)

  • Twice

Puppies are usually fed 3-4 times a day. Depending on their age ofcourse.

  • I feed Rock six times a day in small portions. I'm gonna start bumping it up so she gets a layer of fat for the winter. She's got a tiny tummy and pukes if we feed her too much at once.

  • I feed my puppy 3x's a day. Breakfast lunch and dinner. There is usually instructions on your dog food bag too;)
